At Snook’s Bayside restaurant I ordered a fresh medley of carrot, zucchini and squash and the rice was some sort of garden rice that was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Upon finishing up our entrée, Donna, the waitress, said she had a surprise for us. We had told her that we eat and drink coconut regularly so she had the chef break apart the coconut that my drink had been made in and brought it out for us with our dessert. We had ordered the chocolate and peanut butter pie that was covered with caramel and chocolate, it was delicious! While we were there, somebody proposed to his girlfriend on the dock that you can walk out onto and they were publicly congratulated by the restaurant and they got to blow the horn for the sunset that the restaurant appears to do every evening. We were finally thanked by our server and paid our tab. This was overall a top notch dining experience for my son and I and we will be returning anything we get the chance..!

I swung by Snook’s Bayside for a laidback lunch. Driving down Overseas Highway, look for the blue sign to know where to turn. Once you find it, parking is plentiful in their gravel lot. Depending on your mood, you can opt to sit on the open patio or under the thatched roof. No matter where you choose, you’re guaranteed a breathtaking view of the bay that will put you at ease upon first glance. They have a wide array of signature cocktails, along with some craft beers. To eat, I opted for the mahi mahi blackened fish tacos that came topped with lettuce, pico de gallo, red pepper coulis and cheese. They came in a pair with some battered fries served on the side. While the French fries didn’t do much for me, the tacos really hit the spot! The fish tasted fresh and the toppings really added a nice kick. Of course, I couldn’t leave without ordering a slice of the key lime pie. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but I ate it all. Overall, service was really friendly. I could see this place livening up at night when they have live music. I’ll definitely be back!

I was so happy to see Snook’s on the list of restaurants to be reviewed. I haven’t been there in a while and was looking forward to it. My son has never been there so I definitely wanted to take him there. We took the relatively short drive down US1 and headed to Key Largo. Now, here’s the thing about Snook’s…If you’ve never been there before, you will probably pass it up. But once you’ve discovered this oasis, you’ll never get lost again. As soon as we arrived, “Put the Lime in the Coconut” was playing and as we walked in, my son’s eyes widened in awe. The view here is absolutely remarkable! The vibe is that of vacation; very relaxing and carefree. You can go in a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops and no one will blink an eye. We walked up to the nearest of several bars and the friendly bartender told us about the happy hour and bar bites available. We ordered two Moscow mules and waters along with the smoked fish dip, conch fritters and shrimp and lobster cakes with mango chutney. The fish dip was average for Key’s food fare but the conch fritters were very good because there was a lot of conch meat and not an abundance of batter. The shrimp and lobster cakes were even better with visible chucks of shrimp and lobster and the mango chutney with a squeeze of the lemon wedge was the perfect dressing for the duo. We enjoyed our drinks and appetizers as we listened to the live entertainment courtesy of Sweetwater Key Largo which specializes in Piedmont style Americana country, blues and folk and then later Sir Cedric Luces Steel Drums jamming some groovy island rhythms. At this time our waitress came by with more water and asked if we wanted some more drinks or food. She also asked us if we wanted to move to a table but we wanted to stay exactly where we were because the sun would be setting soon and the view from our waterfront ledge was perfect (although it doesn’t matter where you sit at Snook’s because you’re surrounded by the beautiful oceanic views). We really couldn’t decide on what to order next so our waitress suggested the Snook’s Indecision and she was right on point! A 6oz. Floridian lobster tail, grilled shrimps, scallops and Mahi Mahi (all grilled) in a scrumptious white wine beurre blanc sauce with hints of garlic, roasted potatoes and fresh veggies. Absolutely divine! As we noshed away on this feast, the sun set right before our eyes and the kaleidoscope of orange, pink, purple and grey was beyond beautiful. We knew exactly what we’d have to end this smorgasbord; key lime pie. Key lime pie happens to be my favorite dessert and Snook’s did a good job with theirs. A nicely portioned slice with the ying and yang of sweet and tart drizzled with key lime sauce and topped with crushed almonds and a rolled sweet wafer. What a perfect ending to a perfectly wonderful day!
