I was with a group of six, we all met at the bar and had a cocktail and were quickly whisked over to our table. We were lucky, we got what I call, the Dan Marino table. You’ll know what I mean when you go in. My Negroni was perfect and the perfect start to dinner. As we sipped on our cocktails, the waiter brought out water and began “talking about the night’s meal”. Many of us had been there plenty of times, so we know: “just bring out the hot and cold antipasto platters and a few of those giant grilled shrimp” That and a couple of loaves of hot crusty bread and you’ve got a meal. The hot platter has calamari, clams oreganata,, sausage, meatballs, it never ended, but I think I could make a meal out of the Sicilian stuffed peppers on the cold antipasto platter. Anthony refuses to give me the recipe saying, “Paulie, it’s all I’ve got”. Dinner arrived and I knew I’d have leftovers. Most of the recipes are from Anthony’s Grandmother and Chef Al has them perfected. We always order the rigatoni cauliflower for the table; it’s an Italian peasant dish that I can’t get enough of. My wife had Ravioli and I had the chicken Scarparelli, perfectly cooked chicken with sausage, peppers and potato’s. Not that any of us could fit anymore in, Anthony arrived at the table with a chilled bottle of Grappa, to “Settle our stomachs” and a huge platter of Italian desserts, which we picked at and let’s just say, thank God I had a driver that night!

Anthony’s Runway 84 has been one of our favorite restaurants for years. The valet parking at the front door is great, and once inside you think you are on a large party plane with the Sopranos. This is a great restaurant for people watching and eating really good Italian food. We loved the Mussels Marina that comes with each meal. They were huge, meaty, and garlicky, and went well with great bread to dip in the sauce. The salad also came with it. You need a big appetite to eat here. Our server was terrific, efficient and patient. Our main dishes were delicious. The eggplant parmigiani was my favorite dish, and it was fresh, and the sauce was just the way that I like it. My wife’s Chicken Rosie was huge, stuffed with spinach, prosciutto and cheese covered in a tasty white wine mushroom sauce. There was no room for desert, but they looked wonderful. The bill was no surprise. We think we definitely got our money’s worth. There is a reason that this restaurant is hard to get seated on some occasions. It is consistent good old fashioned comfort food with music from Dino and Frank in an atmosphere that is very cool. We come every Easter and it is a mobbed, but we are patient because we know it is worth the wait.

Complimentary valet parking was a thoughtful way to be received by Anthony's Runway 84. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted and seated immediately. Our waiter was very attentive and was very well-versed on the day's specials and menu. I started out this dining experience sipping on a peach belini martini while enjoying the unique and relaxing environment. The bread was served piping hot and fresh and came with a perfectly balanced infusion of extra virgin olive oil, garlic, cheese and parsley. The meatballs appetizer was mouth watering and ample. For dinner I had the Sunday Feast which indeed was a very generous feast of sausage, meatballs, veal and ribs in a delicious marinara sauce served over perfectly cooked pasta and a dollop of ricotta cheese. This meal was heavenly! For dessert, the authentic Italian cheesecake was a nice surprise. Made from ricotta cheese, this cheesecake reminded me of summers spent in Italy. It was the perfect ending to a perfect meal and dining experience. Anthony's Runway 84 is the perfect landing spot in Fort Lauderdale for great food, impeccable service, nice ambiance and great drinks.
