Chefs on the Run

Name: Joseph Beckles
Restaurant Pick: Chefs on the Run

Located off of Krome ave in “Old Homestead”, Chefs on The Run is an unassuming gem of a restaurant in South Dade. There is ample parking across the street at the new Homestead Station parking garage and some street parking also, Due to covid, no indoor dining was currently available but there is an outside patio in the back which is where we ate. Chef came out while we were eating to check on us, talk a bit about his food and the jerk spice which was very refreshing. His passion and love for his restaurant and what he does showed up in his conversation and interactions with us and also with the party at the table next to us. If you are in the mood for a creative, flavorful meal, I definitely recommend Chefs on the Run.

Restaurant Pick: Siamo

Chefs on the Run is located in the heart of historic downtown Homestead near the Seminole Theatre. Parking is free and the flavors are bountiful. The Puerto Rican influences in every dish make the food standout no matter the building size. It was my first time trying a traditional street food called “The Tripleta” that was overloaded with three types of meat served on naan. All of the different meats are very well seasoned and it was not like anything I had ever tried before. I also had a delectable burger that was the perfect balance of smoky and sweet with the applewood smoked bacon and bbq sauce. The parmesean truffle fries were crisy and addicting. I loved that this place felt like an old Florida hometown location with surprising flavors from the Carribbean & abroad.

Restaurant Pick: La Santa Taqueria

The Burgers were flavorful and cooked well, and the surullitos were good and came with a delicious dipping sauce. Even though we ordered the food to go, I find that it held up pretty well, and the flavor was not compromised. I also liked that even though we were not able to dine in, the 2 ladies in the front were very pleasant, and really took their time in explaining their various menu items.
