I headed down to Hallandale on a Saturday night. Once I got in the car, I decided to call the restaurant in case we needed a reservation since it was a Saturday night. They told us that there was no wait. We got to the restaurant at 7pm. There was no one sitting inside the restaurant, but there were a few tables outside with a few guests. The waitress came over and gave us some Cancha (Peruvian toasted corn) to snack on and quickly got our drink order. I tried the Inka Kola— a Peruvian soda. There was a long bar in the restaurant in which one of the workers was eating a meal. The décor was very charming as it had these wonderful Peruvian paintings on the wall. I then ordered the calamari for an appetizer. The appetizer came to us quickly. It was wonderfully plated and piled high was golden fried crispy calamari. There was an aioli that accompanied the calamari to dip the ring into. We ate the calamari quickly and could not wait to order our main meal. I have never eaten Peruvian, so I had asked the waiter for a recommendation and he recommended the Parrilla Marina Grill Seafood mix. I decided to go with this choice. The entrée came out sizzling to our table. It was such a wonderful presentation. I tried the mahi on the plate and I was a bit set back on the freshness. I also thought that the food was slightly cold even though the cast iron plate came over sizzling. I then tried the octopus and I guess I was used to it being grilled, so the way it was prepped was a little chewy. I guess I was not used to the preparation this way. I think if I were to come back, I may try some of the ceviche or the steak options.

The restaurant is located in a strip mall on Hallandale Beach Blvd There are lots of free open public parking spaces. El Tayta is tucked in between two other restaurants. You are greeted by a friendly hostess at the entrance and walking inside. You get this cozy feeling. The food is typical Peruvian style cuisine, tasty and nicely portioned. There is a very casual yet busy ambience, good service and soft background music. We waited a while for our bill, but at the end, we were pleasantly surprised with the total cost. I would definitely return.

El Tayta was my wakeup call that Peruvian is much more than ceviche. And although they get their ceviche right, you must try the Tacu and the Causas. The servers will explain everything about the quality, and the portion size is right on. Easy parking in a strip mall and certainly worth a try.
