Frank’s Grill is a hidden local Italian restaurant that every town should have. I was impressed by the quality of the food, the choices, and the service. At first, you are not sure what to expect from the outside, but as you walk in you get the ideal feeling of a Traditional Family Style Italian Restaurant. It is beer and wine only which had just enough options to accommodate the dishes. They also have a selection of very exclusive high-end wines for those who love to indulge. Italian restaurants usually have pizza specials, but realizing they did not make pies there, it was still a treat to have home style cooking. So many choices to choose from, and the option of sauces and style you want is perfect when you are slightly indecisive. The 30 years that this establishment has been around, shows the dedication and passion throughout the dishes.

Frank’s Grill is a real dining treasure in the middle keys. It’s a local’s favorite and a restaurant that part time residents patronize year after year. I enjoy the occasional lunch here during the week and dinner when we are able. The food and service are always excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. If we lived closer, we would be here at least once a week. His menu has something for everyone. I’ve recommended this restaurant to many friends over the years and I stop in when I can. We brought a good friend with us and she really enjoyed her first time there. If Frank knows you like your meal a particular way, he will go out of his way to accommodate you. I can’t say enough good things about this establishment!

This kind of restaurant comforts me. It’s not trying to trailblaze or even impress. It aims to welcome, to include, and to feed people good, familiar, and homestyle food. There was zero attitude, it was all, “Folks, can we get you a table?”, We had no reservations, but they moved us when we asked to be seated by the door. They bring you warm bread, roasted garlic in oil or butter, soup or salad are included with main courses. Without wine, you can fill up easily under $20 per person. The core menu is timeless + has that nostalgia factor. It won’t blow your mind but it’ll make you feel good. There’s an absolute sincerity here, you can feel it. As I was leaving, I stopped to read an article framed by the door. “That’s my dad”, said a blonde man with a thick gold chain around his neck. He was Frank Jr. + this is his place. I could imagine young families eating here, but I could also see it as a date night spot. The courses were paced well, not rushed, but it moved along (and they close at 9, so we were definitely a last seating). Servers checked in frequently- you could tell they would know right away if anything was amiss. I love creative menus, new flavors, tastes that push boundaries, but I don’t want to live in a world without restaurants like Frank’s, where chicken marsala and spaghetti with meatballs can always be turned to, with crusty bread on the side. No pretention, real deal.
