We were circling the establishment a few times trying to find parking. Immediately upon our arrival, my wife and I were struck by the authenticity of the Spanish culture. The Spanish music playing in the background and the assortment of wine behind the bar made us gravitate towards eating at the bar. We saw an older Spanish family in the corner enjoying their meal and wine. We felt like it was about to be siesta in Madrid, I guess a little traveling daydream. The waiter opened a nice bottle of Tempranillo and we looked at the menu, we made our selection and the food came out very quickly. The appetizers were amazing, truly making us crave the upcoming paella. Once the paella arrived, we were in heaven, these were the flavors we were craving from an authentic Spanish meal. We went on to the desert and it was surprisingly sweet but not overbearing. The staff informed us of their weekly Flamenco nights, which we already made reservations for. La Taberna Giralda is the perfect little establishment. The staff is as vibrant as the Spanish culture and the fact that it has Flamenco performances gives this restaurant its authentic lasting appeal.

I chose to sit outside on the sidewalk, even though they also have a lovely courtyard in the back. I immediately ordered my sangria pitcher and appetizers. The entertainment started immediately at the wine bar next door. The best fried chickpeas (garbanzos fritos) are made at this establishment. Both appetizers are inexpensive and are large enough to share.  At this point, I could not stop eating! I ordered my entrée cooked as my waiter suggested, chef’s discretion. The entrée arrived, which was a large pork loin steak topped with caramelized onions, with a side of white rice & slivers of fried potatoes. The pork loin steak was juicy, tender and seasoned well.  The rice and onions complimented the juices of the loin. Potatoes were crisp. I could only eat half of the meal so I doggy-bagged the rest for lunch.  For dessert, a cup of my favorite cava completed the night. The slice of cake (torta) was moist and savory with almonds.  The manager stopped by to see if everything was good, which it was. I do recommend this restaurant often and have celebrated many important events with friends.  The food is authentic, and entertainment is fun whether inside for the Flamenco show or outside for people watching.

I decided to enjoy a Thursday night dinner, because I wanted to take in their live Flamenco show, which is also available on Saturday’s. Even though I arrived early for my 8:00 PM reservation, I found myself inconvenienced because it took me about 20 minutes to find a parking space. Once I walked up to the restaurant, the manager escorted me to a table close to the stage, and handed me a menu. He was very friendly and accommodating. I decided to order one appetizer and one entrée, however when I found out that they provide the Patatas a la Giralda, I decided to order two starters. They also provide a variety of wine, but since I was driving, I didn’t order any. When the waitress handed me the check, I was pleasantly surprised when I realized she had treated me for dessert! This restaurant is definitely worth the visit!
