Very Fun! Classy location, the lower Keys that offers unique flavor combinations + FRESH food. Unbelievable taste sensations- terrific atmosphere- we had a great experience! Having both locations in the same building is brilliant! For dinner we had the portobello fries/ goat cheese/ poutine. Our entrée was crab cakes and special meatballs. For dessert we had bread pudding/ brownie with ice cream and for drinks, tap beer/wine. The taste of the food was very flavorful and the décor is modern- Keys eclectic- CLEAN. “My new joint” is upstairs- where we wait until our table was ready. We LOVED the casual ambiance, the solo guitar, the service was terrific! Also the “garden” outside offers fresh herbs + garnishes.

As you pull up to a seemingly unassuming steel building on the side of US1 in Cudjoe Key, you wonder if you are at the right place. The Square Grouper is definitely a destination restaurant in every sense of the word. There is truly nothing else like it in the Keys. As you pass cow troughs that double as planters laden with fresh herbs you will realize that lunch time is the easiest to score a table in the dining room. Staff is always warm and friendly and service is always good. The menu is pretty extensive but make sure to check out the specials board to see what is local and fresh. The wine and cocktail program is solid so indulge in a glass or two. Once your order is in you start noticing some interesting details throughout. That ties back to the fact that a square grouper is not a marine creature… You will have to ask your server to extrapolate on that fact. Drinks come out in just the right amount of time and food is never far behind. Portions are ample enough to share and I recommend ordering across the board to get a little taste of everything. Pricing is fair given the quality of the meal. The only problem with dining here is the car ride back home…you will be so full you might fear falling asleep at the wheel. Dining at The Square Grouper is definitely a departure from the normal Keys restaurant experience. This is certainly not your typical fried seafood joint. From the moment you walk into the restaurant you know that you are somewhere special…from the food, to the décor, and ending with warm service.

I arrived to the restaurant and saw at least a group of 5 people waiting. I hoped that I can get in quick, I was really hungry. I went inside looked around for some guidance on where to sit 10-15 before the host arrived. I did not want to wait therefore I chose the bar. The host was friendly and made space for me at the bar. My waitress/ bartender was very nice and energetic singing dancing real fun. I ordered a mojito and seared scallops with a bacon mushroom vinaigrette that was very tasty. I then ordered the Square Grouper Seafood Stew well recommended by the waitress. I really enjoyed the stew however I did have to order a side of mix rice to complete the dish and yes I had a great time. I was entertained the entire time just looking at the people having fun, talking to the people and listening to all the fishing stories. I really like the environment and I'm sure to go back to The Square Grouper Bar & Grill.
