I really enjoyed my time at Whale's Rib. It's laid back and exactly what you want from a dive-y beach restaurant near the beach in South Florida. Cozy booths. Check. Fresh fish. Check. Delicious Bloody Mary's. Check. Old guys with white hair sitting around the bar drinking cheap beer talking about Hurricanes and fishing tales. Check. I would definitely recommend it, especially as a place to bring friends visiting from out of town.

The service at the Whale's Rib really made this local dive standout. We felt welcomed the moment we walked up to the hostess stand to the moment we paid the bill - something I feel you don't often experience in South Florida. The dishes we had were simply prepared overall very tasty. I would not order the oysters Rockefeller again- as they were mostly spinach, tomato and cheese - which I love, but the oyster was so small and was not the featured ingredient. If you're okay with getting your hands messy, go for the rock shrimp if they have them. They're tiny - but very flavorful - dusted with Old Bay and drawn butter. I could have had another order and made it my meal! We tried two of the soups - Lobster Bisque and New England clam chowder - both were mediocre. There were no lobster chunks or large pieces of clam in the soups - but for the price perhaps we should have expected that. For our main course, we ordered the blackened Mahi and grilled Grouper sandwiches. Would definitely recommend the blackened seasoning there - and would opt for that next time I ordered one of the fish sandwiches. For drinks, it's a Bud Light and sugary cocktail kind of place. If you're looking for craft cocktails and beers - not the right place. If you plan on eating a full meal, I would not sit in the bar area. It is a bit cramped and loud. Overall, I would recommend the Whale's Rib especially if you're on vacation down in South Florida or just want to be treated like a local - it's a no-frills kind of place and sometimes those make for the best nights out.

The parking is easy because there was an attendant there to direct. I walked up and only saw smiles + felt warmth as the hostess greeted me and I was sat immediately. Service was quick and correct. My sandwich was great because the piece of fish was huge, I could not finish the food. I was able to eat half. The fish is very fresh and cooked well. The wait staff is great and accommodating. The atmosphere is very relaxing especially because the beach is across the street!
